School enrollment examination
In Thuringia, school enrolment examinations are only carried out by doctors from the paediatric and youth medical service of the health authorities. All children starting school who have their main place of residence in Jena are examined.
Procedure of the school enrollment examination
Please allow at least 90 minutes for the examination.
The school enrolment examination is carried out to assess your child's physical, emotional and mental development.
Focal points of the examination
- Testing the sensory organs (visual acuity and hearing)
- Measurement of height and body weight
- Physical examination
- Assessment of physical motor skills and speech
- Assessment of other areas of development relevant to school
- Observation of social maturity and behavior
- assessment of vaccination status and vaccination advice
As a result of the examination, the pediatric and adolescent medical service will discuss recommendations with you that are important for your child's successful school attendance, formulate them for forwarding to the school and, with your consent, inform the school.
