Hospital hygiene

Medical facilities such as Jena University Hospital or doctors' surgeries in the city of Jena are monitored for infection hygiene by the City of Jena's health department.

Medical and nursing facilities in the outpatient and inpatient care sector in the city of Jena are monitored by the public health department in terms of infection hygiene. In particular, these are

  • the University Hospital and
  • Day clinics,
  • Dialysis facilities,
  • facilities for outpatient surgery,
  • the birth center,
  • medical and dental practices,
  • outpatient care services that provide intensive outpatient care in facilities, residential groups or other forms of communal living and
  • practices of other human medical professions (e.g. invasive alternative practitioners).

Monitoring is carried out routinely at certain intervals, depending on the risk classification of the facilities. However, if necessary (e.g. complaints), an unannounced, ad hoc inspection is also carried out.

Inspection

Prior to the inspection, an appointment is made by telephone. You can obtain information by telephone about the inspection procedure, the presence of the necessary responsible contact persons at the practice or the availability of important hygiene-related documents for inspection. After the inspection, the facility management will receive an inspection report in which deficiencies and deadlines for remedying the deficiencies are listed.

Documents to be kept available

  • Hygiene plan
  • Cleaning and disinfection plan
  • Validation report for medical device reprocessing, if applicable
  • Proof of training, e.g. hygiene training, if applicable, specialist training course to acquire expertise in accordance with the Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) for the reprocessing of medical devices in medical and dental practices

Building project

Prior to the construction, modification or change of use of buildings with hygiene-relevant functional areas in

  • Hospitals,
  • Facilities for outpatient surgery,
  • Preventive care or rehabilitation facilities in which medical care comparable to that provided in hospitals is provided,
  • dialysis facilities and
  • day clinics

a hospital hygienist (§ 6 ThürmedHygVO) must draw up an expert opinion on the fulfillment of the structural-functional requirements for compliance with the generally recognized rules of hygiene (hygiene report).

At the same time, the responsible health authority must be involved in the construction project.

Prior to commissioning, a declaration signed by the responsible planner and the operator of the facility regarding the implementation of the expert recommendations must be submitted to the health authority.
